Excursions along the Mountains of Prades
The Mountains of Prades are specially known and beloved for those who love the nature. They constitute and exceptional biological system protected by the Plan de Espais de Interés Natural (Plan for the Spaces of Natural Interest) of Catalunya.
With an area of 260 square kilometres, the mountain of La Baltasana of 1.201 metres of height is the highest point of the mountain range. We have to highlight the forest of Poblet, with an expanse of 3.000 hectares of state property. Most of these hectares are located in the area of Vimbodí and the inhabited nuclei of Vilanova de Prades, Vallclara and Rojals.
Due to its particular weather, during winter very low temperatures can be reached and the snow is frequent. These 
peculiarities make the zone a unique ecosystem in the whole country.
The Pyreneean oak (roble rebollo) is the main character of these forests, along with autochthonous products such as the chestnuts of Vilanova de Prades, which are delicious and have a regional Protected Designation of Origin.
There are many marked itineraries and even mountain guides specially devoted to this area. This gives the excursionist and those people interested in climbing (from every level and at every age) an opportunity to discover the incredible richness and beauty of these mountains.
